Don’t stop the flow: Your cup is about to run over

What’s on your head indeed determines what’s in your cup, because it is the anointing on your head that causes your cup to overflow. When God anoints your head, He gives you overflow immediately, however, the manifestation of that overflow on earth might not be immediate. The manifestation on earth might sometimes happen in phases, as seen in the scripture below.

While spiritually God has released overflow, on earth the anointing would begin to flow and fill up your cup. As long as you do not hinder the flow, it will continue until that overflow released spiritually is fully manifested on earth. When the anointing begins to flow, because it begins by filling your cup, others might not yet see it. But once it overflows no one can deny the presence of that anointing. When David was anointed, he did not step into overflow immediately, we saw the anointing manifest and began to fill his cup. He kills the lion, an expression of that empowerment in his life, then he kills the bear, another manifestation of the flow of the anointing on him.

When David stood before Goliath, he did not allow any force to hinder the flow of the anointing on his head because he knew that victory was dependent on the anointing, not his skill. Below are three things David avoided before confronting Goliath.

A wrong atmosphere: When David heard Goliath and was stirred up to go fight him, his elder brother tried to get him angry. Here’s what he said to David in 1 Sam 17:28

But when David’s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!

David walked away from his brother and continued his conversation with others, he knew that anger would contaminate the atmosphere of joy required for the flow of God’s anointing. He did not take the bait, he did not get discouraged, sad, or angry. He walked away and continued his conversation

Unbelief: When David told King Saul he was going to fight Goliath, Saul was very vocal about his unbelief in David’s ability to do so.

“Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth. – 1 Sam. 17:33

The Bible said that David persisted, and Saul’s unbelief could not contaminate David’s conviction. David knew what was upon him, he had seen it manifest and produce results even though others had not yet seen it. He was not dependent on others to validate the anointing on his life, He believed in what was upon him. So David decides to show Saul his cup, He says look I have killed the bear and the lion, you may not know or see the anointing on me because my cup has not run over, but here’s proof of its flow, proof that the anointing has been filling up my cup.

Scriptures say of Jesus in Matthew 13:58, that He did not do many miracles because of their unbelief. Unbelief hinders the flow of God’s anointing. Even Jesus as anointed as He was was hindered by men’s unbelief. David knew this and stood in faith, not allowing the fear and unbelief of others to contaminate his faith

A posture of weakness: Scattered over the pages of scripture is proof that God’s anointing does not flow in a place of weakness. Strength is a posture required for the flow of God’s power. David was a man of strength. We see his posture of strength communicated through his words. As he responded to Goliath, one thing was sure, David was not going up against Goliath by himself. He knew his God, he knew the power backing him. Did the scripture not say that those who know their God will be strong and do exploits? David knew his God and that produced strength in him.

After ensuring there was no hindrance to the flow of the anointing; in a posture of strength, a heart full of faith, and an atmosphere of joy, David triggered the flow of the anointing with his words. He spoke to Goliath saying God will conquer you and I will kill you. Words are powerful and are triggers for the flow of the anointing. At creation, the Spirit hovered but nothing changed until God spoke. When Jesus released the anointing, most times it was through words – Jesus would say “Be healed”,” be it unto you according to your faith”, and” Peace be still”, His words released the power.

David kills Goliath, the women begin to sing about him, and his fame spreads all around. His cup runs over. Everyone now knew David because of the overflow, even Saul could see that David indeed was God’s anointed one.

Why am I sharing all this today? I sense that many have been anointed in this season but haven’t seen the overflow yet. I have come to tell you that the anointing is flowing and filling up your cup. I came with a word of encouragement, don’t hinder the flow – Stand in faith, stand in strength, maintain the right atmosphere, and keep speaking. For the Lord says it won’t be long from now, you’ll see your cup run over. Don’t stop the flow, for your cup is about to run over!
